Perplexity's AI Research Agents Can Now Publish the Web
THE SHORT VERSION: Perplexity shipped a Computer update on July 13 that gives its AI research agents persistent memory, faster models, and the ability to research private companies and publish web pages on their own. For founders, that means an AI agent can now compile a dossier on your company, or write and publish a page about it, without you ever knowing it happened.
What happened
Perplexity announced the update in its July 13, 2026 changelog, the latest in a string of releases expanding Computer, its agentic research and work tool, beyond simple search. Computer now remembers past sessions instead of starting cold each time, switches between underlying models mid-task, and can publish a finished web page directly from a research thread. Perplexity also added the ability for Computer to research private companies specifically, pulling together information on firms that don't have the public filings or press coverage that make research easy. The update follows Computer's rollout inside Microsoft 365 apps in May and Personal Computer's release to all Mac users, part of a broader push to move Perplexity from an answer box into an agent that acts on a user's behalf across research, writing, and now publishing.
Why AI research agents change the game for private companies
Most SEO advice still assumes a human is reading a results page. AI research agents skip that step: they compile, summarize, and now publish, without a person checking the source list. That matters most for private companies, which don't have the ticker, the 10-K, or the press archive that gives public companies a paper trail. If your only footprint is a thin homepage and a LinkedIn page that hasn't been touched since 2024, an agent doing "private company research" has almost nothing accurate to work with, and it will fill the gaps with whatever it can find, including outdated directory listings and stale news.
- Audit what an agent would findOpen a new Perplexity Computer thread and ask it to research your own company as if a prospective buyer sent it. Compare what it returns against what you'd want a buyer to see first, then fix the biggest gap, whether that's a missing pricing page, a stale About page, or leadership bios that don't exist anywhere public.
- Publish the primary source yourselfAgents synthesize from whatever is public, so put the facts you want repeated in your own words on your own domain: pricing logic, customer counts, funding history, positioning. A clear, current company page beats hoping an agent finds a decent third-party mention instead.
- Watch for agent-published content about youSet a weekly search alert for your company name plus your competitors', since agents can now publish web pages from research threads. If something inaccurate is circulating, you want to catch it in days, not find out from a prospect who read it first.
By the numbers: July 13 is Perplexity's fourth Computer-related shipping update since April, following Microsoft 365 integration on May 28, Personal Computer's launch to all Mac users on May 10, and improved enterprise models on May 3.
What to do this week
Spend fifteen minutes in Perplexity or ChatGPT asking each to describe your company, your pricing, and how you compare to your top two competitors. Screenshot what comes back, fix the worst inaccuracy on your own site this week, and repeat the same check monthly now that agents like Computer can act on what they find instead of just displaying it.
